Husky updates closures portfolio
Husky said their HyCAP system works best with high density polyethylene (HDPE) with the trend to one piece closures and the challenges they present but can also be used for polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE).
The updated system has a new injection unit using a direct drive for plasticizing as well as electric clamp lock, a new mold designed for aggressive cycles and a hot runner designed to offer energy savings.
Responsibility for the entire system enabling complete melt stream control and reduced variability in the injection molding process, results in increased productivity, reduced waste and improved part quality, said the firm.
Only industry provider
Husky claim their relationship with KTW has made them the industry’s only provider of complete injection molding solutions for beverage closure manufacturing, including machine, mold, hot runner, temperature controller, as well as process and productivity monitoring software.
The most common sizes for these applications is 26mm to 38mm but the HyCAP system is capable of practically any size used in the beverage sector, Mark Fitzpatrick, global leader of beverage closure systems told FoodProductionDaily.com.
“This is the first HyCAP generation that has been designed as a key part of an integrated system. Mold, machine, hot runner and hot runner controller were all designed to work seamlessly together.
“While the next generation HyCAP system is ideally suited to manufacture lightweight, one-piece beverage closures, it is capable of producing closures for a wide variety of applications, including CSD/sparkling, hot fill, aseptic, water and certain dairy closures.
“By designing our latest HyCAP product as a system, we were able to achieve a level of integration and functionality not previously offered in the market.”
KTW benefits
When asked about the acquisition of KTW, he said the firm’s knowledge and experience was critical in bringing the product to market.
“The acquisition of KTW made Husky the closure industry’s only provider of complete injection molding systems, including machine, mold, hot runner and controller.
“The next generation HyCAP system is a great example of what Husky and KTW can achieve together. We believe we have strong potential for even more innovation and look forward to developing that into the future.”
