Heineken appoints new President of the Europe Region

Glenn Caton will succeed Soren Hagh as President Europe for Heineken from 1 January 2024.

Caton joins Heineken from Mondelez International, where he is currently Senior Vice President Global Commerce and was previously President for South-East Asia and President of Northern Europe. He will join the Executive Team reporting to Dolf van den Brink, Heineken CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board.

Soren Hagh will leave Heineken on 31 December 2023 to take up a new role with William Grant & Sons.

“Soren was appointed as Regional President for Europe and member of the Executive Team in March 2020,” notes Heineken. “Over the last 3.5 years, as part of our EverGreen strategy, he has led the fundamental transformation of our European business, focusing on improving profitability and value creation by winning in premium, digitally transforming our route-to-consumer, and leveraging our scale advantage.

“He has led an end-to-end transformation of the regional supply chain network to step change productivity, increase asset utilisation, improve innovation rates and put us on the path to deliver our net-zero ambitions in the region. In parallel, his teams have focused on strengthening their premium portfolios and launching a next generation of premium brands that connect to Gen Y and Z. Soren has also led a bold transformation of our route-to-market in Horeca by launching the Eazle platform across the region and building it into the industry leading eB2B platform in Europe.”

Soren joined Heineken in 2013 as the company's Executive Director Global Marketing. In 2016 he was appointed Managing Director of Heineken Italy, where he successfully led the premiumisation of Heineken's brand portfolio, drove innovation of local brands and accelerated the digitisation of the wholesale business. Prior to Heineken, he held several senior management positions at Lego, Diageo and L’Oréal.

Glenn Caton joins Heineken after 10 years at Mondelez International where he is currently Senior Vice President, Global Commerce based in Chicago with responsibility for channel strategy; revenue growth management; customer partnerships and sales excellence.  Glenn’s passion for customer and consumer centric growth and commercial excellence has helped establish stronger capabilities and business impact; with Mondelez being one of the world’s fastest growing, global consumer products companies in 2023. 

He started at Mondelez in 2013 as VP for Chocolate Northern Europe before becoming President, Northern Europe in 2016, where he delivered strong top and bottom-line growth through a focus on world-class manufacturing, commercial excellence and a refreshed brand marketing. He moved to Singapore in 2018, initially as Category President for Chocolate across Asia, Middle East and Africa before becoming Business Unit President for South-East Asia where he successfully steered the business through the COVID pandemic, driving growth, productivity and strengthening the organisation.

Glenn started his career at P&G, where he worked for 9 years based in the UK and Geneva in roles across Sales and Marketing. He then moved into the wine sector as Senior Marketing Director for Europe at E&J Gallo in 2003. In 2006 he joined Hiscox Insurance as UK Sales & Marketing Director and subsequently Managing Director of the UK Direct to Consumer business based in London; where he led the shift from a B2B business to a more consumer-orientated, brand-led business. After four years he returned to the wine sector as UK Managing Director of Direct Wines, the largest consumer wine business in the world.

BlueTriton Brands, a North American water brand company, has appointed Joey Bergstein as Chief Executive Officer: effective November 28.

Bergstein joins BlueTriton from The Sabra Dipping Company ("Sabra"), where he has served as President and CEO since 2021. Together with the Sabra Team, he positioned Sabra for continued growth by resetting operations, strengthening food safety and quality, improving operational effectiveness, advancing innovation and sustainability, and empowering a committed and passionate team.

Prior to Sabra, Bergstein served as CEO at Seventh Generation, a leading US brand of bio-based household and personal care products, where he was instrumental in helping the organization grow its revenue, profitability, footprint, and impact as a sustainability leader. Bergstein began his career with a decade at Procter & Gamble followed by leadership roles at Molson and Diageo.

"With more than 30 years of experience building and leading iconic consumer goods brands focused on sustainability, governance, and corporate culture, Joey embodies what it means to be a purpose-driven CEO," said Dean Metropoulos, Chairman of BlueTriton's Board of Directors. PepsiCo’s Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer, Hugh Johnston, will leave the company on November 30: taking on the position of Chief Financial Officer at The Walt Disney Company.

Johnston retires from PepsiCo after 34 years of ‘incredible and stellar service’ to the company.  He joined the company in 1987 and assumed the role of Chief Financial Officer in 2010.  Over the years, Johnston's portfolio has included a variety of responsibilities, including President, Pepsi Cola North America, leadership of PepsiCo's information technology function since 2015, the company's global e-commerce business from 2015 to 2019 and the Quaker Foods North America division from 2014 to 2016. 

As a result of this transition, James (Jamie) Caulfield will succeed Johnston as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer for PepsiCo.  Caulfield is currently Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, PepsiCo Foods North America. 

He has an ‘exemplary track record’ within PepsiCo, also spanning more than 30 years.  During his PepsiCo career, Caulfield held the key position of Senior Vice President, Investor Relations from 2011 to 2019 and has held a succession of roles in Finance across Frito-Lay, FP&A, Investor Relations, Mergers & Acquisitions, Corporate Strategy and Development, and North America Beverages, where he was CFO for Canada.  In 2019, Caulfield took on his current role as Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, PepsiCo Foods North America and has been instrumental in the stewardship of the growth and transformation of the business.

International spirits creator, importer and distributor, Biggar and Leith, has appointed Tim Dunlop to the newly-created role of European Commercial Director.  

In his position, Dunlop will lead the sales teams in multiple territories, including the on- and off-trade, independent and specialist retail, e-commerce, and online. Working alongside Export Director, Daniel Bras, he will lead distributors in priority markets with a focus on expanding the global footprint of Shanky’s Whip whiskey liqueur, Butterfly Cannon tequila, Hotel Starlino Italian aperitivo liqueurs, and Stambecco amaro. Dunlop will also drive strategic marketing, digital and PR activity in the UK and Europe for the portfolio.  

Dunlop brings experience spanning over 12 years to Biggar and Leith having previously held senior roles at Hammonds of Knutsford, where he was brand director across leading spirits brands, distilleries and RTDs, and Mangrove as head of e-commerce and premium retail.  

His appointment will allow Biggar and Leith to strengthen its position in the marketplace, drive the business forward, and build on industry relationships to grow the firm’s brand portfolio in key markets across the retail and hospitality sectors.  

Dunlop reports in to Elwyn Gladstone, founder and owner of Biggar and Leith.

Beverage alcohol distributor Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits has appointed Mike McLaughlin as Chief Transformation Officer, effective February 2024.

In this role, McLaughlin will report to Southern Glazer’s Chief Executive Officer, Wayne E. Chaplin, and will be responsible for leading North Star – a business-led process transformation focused on modernizing and standardizing ways of working and enabling technology to meet the changing needs of Southern Glazer’s customers, supplier partners, and employees.

The transformation strategy is a ‘proactive decision to modernize, standardize, and streamline the Company’s core processes to continue to maximize value for suppliers and customers while offering modern capabilities that allow Southern Glazer’s to attract and retain top talent’.

Prior to his most recent position as Regional President, Central Region, which consists of Southern Glazer’s Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Texas markets, McLaughlin served as Executive Vice President of Sales at Glazer’s Distributors since 2013.

Before joining Glazer’s in 2011, McLaughlin served with Southern Wine and Spirits of America in a number of senior executive roles. McLaughlin has more than 30 years of experience in the beverage alcohol industry, including management positions with Alaska Distributors, Skyy Spirits, and Frank-Lin Distillers.

Coca-Cola Europacific Partners: New vice president of customer service and supply chain

Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) has appointed Chris Goodall as its new vice president of customer service and supply chain for Great Britain.

Goodall joined the group in 2021 as GB manufacturing director, a role that made him responsible for CCEP’s five manufacturing plants across the country. Prior to joining Coca-Cola, Goodall worked for firms including PepsiCo, Nestlé and McVitie’s.

The new position makes Goodall responsible for ensuring the bottler’s end-to-end supply chain in GB is robust, reliable and sustainable, while he will also oversee its customer service process.

Javier Sanchez Gandarias, who previously filled the role, has been appointed vice president of digital transformation and productivity at CCEP, where he will lead a newly formed department focused on the delivery of key projects relating to customer service and supply chain.
