Tetra Pak has just launched the latest in its line of gable top carton packaging systems - specifically designed with both hygiene and safety in mind, claims the company.

The TR/17 ESL packaging machine offers a combination of hygiene-enhancing features, in response to food producers' demands for a gable top carton packaging system that delivers high product quality retention, over longer shelf life, throughout the product distribution chain.

Tetra Pak claims that the optimal hygiene levels achieved with the TR/17 ESL packaging machine allow products packaged in Tetra Rex cartons to retain their quality over a shelf life of up to 90 days, covering distribution, retail display and in consumers' refrigerators.

Extended Shelf Life (ESL) and maximum hygienic qualities are assured by a carton sterilisation system on the TR/17 ESL. Its servo driven motor uses advanced technology to maximise speed, flexibility and product safety, and can accommodate four different carton sizes and fill volumes.

Cartons used in this machine feature the company's Sahara Bottom function, which elevates the carton bottom to minimise carton damage during conveyoring and transport, and reduces moisture penetration.

Added hygiene features include a fill tank that is outside the fill chamber - to assure a clean environment during filling, a triple clean air shielding system, to provide overpressure HEPA clean air during carton sterilisation and filling, folding fingers used during bottom forming that minimise carton scratching and polyethylene dust.

The system is built to exceed global quality standards. Although industry regulations do vary in all parts of the world, the TR/17 ESL adheres to the most stringent safety, hygiene and manufacturing standards.

Operating in more than 165 markets with 20,900 employees, Tetra Pak is one of the world's leading players in the field of paper-based food and beverage carton packaging.
