Coca-Cola is planning to further expand its range of flavours by launching Cherry Coke into the Australian market. The move follows the somewhat mixed success of Vanilla Coke.

The company is targeting the product to a younger audience. Cherry Coke, which was developed 15 years ago and is already available in the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany, has proved popular with the younger generation.

"Classic Coke has got a very wide range of audiences, you look at Vanilla Coke, heavily slanted to 16-29 year old makes, now you look at Cherry Coke which will probably be a slightly younger audience, about 12-20 year-olds," Coca-Cola Amatil chief executive Terry Davis told Channel Nine's Business Sunday.

Cherry Coke is the seventh Coke flavour to enter the Australian market, following the release of Coca-Cola, Diet Coca-Cola, Lemon Coke, Diet Lemon Coke, Vanilla Coke and Diet Vanilla Coke. The past few years has seen major soft drink manufacturers struggle to expand the market through launching new and exciting products.
