The new system, called PerfectDraft, has been developed jointly by the two companies and is said to be a completely new approach to draught beer dispensing.
PerfectDraft consists of a 6-litre light metal keg with a real tap handle, an internal cooling system and a pump, and is said to keep beer at the optimal conditions at a constant temperature of 3° C. Once installed, the beer is said to stay fresh for four weeks.
PerfectDraft is suitable for a variety of different brands in Interbrew's portfolio, but will initially be rolled out in Belgium with the flagship Stella Artois and Jupiler brands, with other countries and brands coming on stream at a later date.
The unit, which will cost €199.99, is bought separately from the beer, which will cost around €14.99 for a 6-litre keg.
