Online auction exchange created for used equipment

The growing online market for used processing and packaging equipment has received a further boost, with US-based DoveBid creating a new auction facility for companies.

Companies can use DoveBid's Processing and Packaging Exchange (PPX) for selling or buying equipment.

They can either outsource the auction to an agent, or use self-loading web tools to sell their surplus assets online from anywhere in the world.

The growth of auctions of used factory machinery worldwide provides opportunities for managers to pick up brand name parts and equipment they may need to start lines or to upgrade their plants.

The move online expands the reach of such auctions, allowing processors worldwide to put in bids for equipment that might not be available so readily in their local market.

DoveBid said its PPX will conduct its first online auction 19-20 September at www.dovebid.com.

The auction will feature surplus equipment from North America and Europe from Procter and Gamble, Pfizer, Pepsi Co., the Pepsi Bottling Group, Schering-Plough, and other global companies.

The equipment on sale at the DoveBid site include kettles, tanks, agitators, heat exchangers, pumps, mills, powder blenders, centrifuges, ovens, fryers, presses, filters, sifters, homogenizers, fillers, cappers, labelers, cartoners, case packers, case sealers, check weighers, conveyors, palletizers, tablet presses, coders, and flexible bagging equipment.

DoveBid stated that the new exchange would provide a focused marketplace for processing and packaging assets, while expanding this asset class to multiple industries including biopharma, cosmetics, food, beverage, and nutraceutical manufacturers.

"We are also providing a marketplace which meets a growing need requested by our sellers and buyers," the company stated.

DoveBid provides the marketing services and resources for the online auctions.

The company does not charge listing fees.

Sellers can consign assets into the DoveBid Processing and Packaging Exchange by contacting the company or visiting DoveBid's website.

Participants may bid online, review detailed asset descriptions, equipment catalogs, and online bidding instructions.
