Caps and closures supplier Bericap introduced the SuperShorty closure several years ago to meet the PCO 1881 neck finish standard.
Scavenging
Within that range Bericap developed the DoubleSeal SuperShorty Crown O2 scavenger closure to target the growing world market for beer filled in PET bottles.
Beer is an oxygen sensitive product so to protect it from contamination the closure features an inshell moulded oxygen scavenging liner. This absorbs oxygen in the headspace of PET beer bottles and blocks it from entering bottles.
With the latest deal with Martens China, Bericap takes it scavenging closure into the Chinese beer market.
The first Martens China bottles to use the DS SuperShorty Crown O2S are now hitting the market. The brewer was able take this step after having worked alongside its joint venture partner FEG and collaborator Suntory to set up a new filling line that meets the PCO 1881 neck finish standard,
Crown cork
Apart from featuring scavenging technology, the DS SuperShorty Crown O2S is adapted to the design requirements of the beer market.
Bericap claims its crown cork looks very similar to the traditional beer crown cork and therefore matches customer expectations for a beer bottle.
The deal with Martens China follows the announcement last summer from Bericap that it had extended its partnership with Coca-Cola China.
The giant soft drinks company chose the Bericap SuperShorty closure for its sparkling PET packages after having converted its lines in China from the PCO 1810 neck finish to PCO 1881.
