Refresco Iberia pursues diversity with new canning line

Refresco Iberia has installed a new canning line at its production plant in Marcilla, Spain, to diversify the packaging formats available.

Up till now, the facility in northern Spain only produced carton and PET packs but now it is producing carbonated and still soft drinks in 33cl cans.

Dominique Luna, managing director of Refresco Iberia said: “Cans will be 5 per cent of our produced volume this year. For next year we expect this to increase to 15 per cent and consolidating further at 30 per cent, in line with our objective to achieve a better diversification in formats in between carton, PET and cans.”

Luna added that Refresco Iberia had chosen to build the canning line at it Marcilla location because of its proximity to international customers of the European group. For environmental and economic reasons, Luna said the company is sourcing the can raw material from a supplier close to the plant.
