Nestle buys into powdered drink business in Guatemala

Nestle is entering the powdered beverage business in Guatemala by becoming the majority shareholder of the Malher group.

Mahler is one of the major players in the food and drink sector in Guatemala with a range of products from soups and spices to powdered drinks. It owns two factories and four distribution centres, and employs more than 1,300 people.

Commenting on the deal, Leo Leiman, CEO of Nestlé Central America, said: “This agreement shows the trust Nestlé has in the Guatemalan market where we expect an important growth in the coming years.”

Financial details of the agreement with Mahler were not disclosed.
