The company describes its new Alfapro Agglomerated as an optimized, highly-dispersible grade of its branded Alfapro protein concentrate.
Retaining the same nutritional profile as the original product, the new offering is claimed to improve handling thanks to a particle-binding and solidifying process that improves powder consistency, reduces bulk density and eliminates premixing.
Lump resistant
That means the new ingredient can be combined with other components to create a homogenous mix, deliver superior dispersibility and ensure a lump-resistant finished product, said the company.
The company’s president Matt Phillips said: “As market demand increases for both nutritious alternative protein sources and functional beverages, Alfapro Agglomerated provides a tailored ingredient for convenient use in protein powder beverages, satchets and individual stick packs."
Extracted from young alfalfa plants, Cyvex’s Alfapro juice protein concentrate contains: 50% protein, all the essential amino acids, 13 minerals, including calcium, potassium and magnesium, eight vitamins, chlorophyll, xanthophylls lutein and zeaxanthin. It also contains plant-based omega-3 fatty acids.
The juice is extracted using a cold press process to prevent nutrient loss, said the company.
Self-determined GRAS
Meanwhile in June, Cyvex announced self-determined GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe) status for its BioVin(R) Full Spectrum Grape Extract, and BioVin(R) 20 Grape Skin Extract.
BioVin is a full spectrum grape extract manufactured from whole red wine grapes from the Rhone Valley, France. Using whole grapes, including stems, seeds and skin, means that all the beneficial phytochemicals can be extracted including anthocyanidins, proanthocyanidins, trans-resveratrol and polyphenols, said the company.
A powerful antioxidant that scavenges free radicals, reducing oxidative damage to cells, BioVin is said to helps support resistance to oxidation, which provides cardiovascular protection. It may also help poor capillary elasticity and structure by inhibiting harmful enzymes, according to Cyvex.
"Manufacturers can now transform conventional food and beverage offerings into functional products that deliver powerful antioxidant and heart health benefits," said Phillips. "We have seen our BioVin Advanced ingredient effectively incorporated into innovative finished products such as ResVez's Winetime bar, and we expect BioVin to experience similar success, especially in beverage applications due to its high solubility."
