UK ice tea sales heat up

New data on the UK soft drinks market has revealed that sales of ice tea almost doubled last year, with the Lipton brand leading the pack.

The Britvic Soft Drinks Report, based on Neilson and CGA data, found that sales of Lipton Ice Tea grew 102 per cent last year as the “hot cold drink” category as a whole grew 93 per cent.

Overall take-home sales of soft drinks were up 6.6 per cent to £6.6bn, driven by a growing trend for ‘top up’ shopping and a slight improvement in the economy.

The well-established Cola drinks category performed well with sales up 9 per cent to £1.46bn. And energy and sports drinks continued to grow fast – sales rose by 19 per cent in 2010 to £647m.
