Rexam to build new drinks can plant in Brazil

Rexam has unveiled plans to build a new factory in Brazil, after signing a long-term contract with its biggest customer in the country.

The new plant, which will be built close to the city of Belém in north Brazil, will have a capacity of 1.2bn cans when it opens in mid-2012. This will bring total production capacity in the country up to c.14bn.

News of the construction plans comes just a couple of months after Rexam revealed that it had signed a long-term contract with its biggest customer in Brazil. In its latest announcement, Rexam said the deal underpins its capital investment plans, including the decision to build a new factory in Belém.

The drinks can specialist added that the factory in Belém is being built in the fastest growing region of Brazil. It said that around a third of new investments by its customers are concentrated in the north and north east of the country, so the new plant will help the company meet future customer demand and keep logistical costs down.
