The new 60 watt D620i is the most powerful scribing laser that Domino has developed following on from the 10 watt D120i and the 30 watt D320i.
Used for applying text, graphics or codes onto plastic, glass or paper, the new scribing laser is up to 30 per cent faster than the nearest rival at Domino.
The need for speed
The manufacturer said the higher speed will be appreciated by users facing the challenge of applying more variable data at high line speed.
One key target group for the D620i is the beverage industry. Marketing manager Jurgen Pflieger told this publication that the higher speed of the new laser and its robust design makes it suitable for high speed beverage packaging.
Beverage factories can be challenging environments for coding and marking because of dust and regular cleaning with water. For this reason IP65 rating is available as an option to ensure sufficient protection.
Domino claims overall that the D620i offers “a beam with higher energy density, for faster more intense marking.”
Other innovations
The UK-based company said this result is achieved thanks to the increased laser power of the model and the use of the i-Tech 10 scan head, developed for use with the D620i, which improves mirror and head control.
Domino presented the D620i at Interpack in Dusseldorf alongside another new product – the V220i which is a thermal transfer overprinting system. For use in the food and healthcare sectors, the model is designed for printing onto flexible foils, films and labels.
