Rexam's chairman of the board announces retirement

Multinational packaging firm Rexam announced today that chairman Sir Peter Ellwood has retired and will leave the company on February 22 2012.

Stuart Chambers – whose CV includes stints with Tokyo-based NSG Group (glass), Royal Dutch Shell and Mars – will replace Ellwood in the role.

Rexam CEO, Graham Chipchase, said: “Sir Peter has led the Board with great distinction since he became chairman in 2008. His enthusiasm and support will be greatly missed. He departs with the company in a much stronger position to that when he joined."

"The board and I look forward to working with Stuart Chambers. His extensive breadth of business experience, including his global expertise, will be of tremendous benefit to our deliberations as we continue to implement our strategy to deliver improving returns.”

Major beverage can producer Rexam also released an interim management statement (IMS) today, which reported trading for the third quarter (Q3) in line with expectations.
