Chinese panda poo tea causes stir

A Chinese academic and entrepreneur has developed a super premium 'tea' made from panda faeces, according to The Mail, in a bid to turn 'trash into treasure'.

The UK paper said that the tea costs £22,000 per pound, and university lecturer An Yanshi reportedly promised that his product had a "mature and nutty taste'.

Since pandas eat bamboo (pictured), Yanshi is also enthusiastic about claiming associated health benefits for his product, which is made according to a secret recipe and is expected to go on sale next spring.

He said: "Pandas have a very poor digestive system and only absorb about 30 percent of everything they eat. That means their excrement is rich in fibres and nutrients. Just like green tea, bamboo contains an element that can prevent cancer."
