Campari exec jumps ship for Bacardi, hails Latin American 'opportunity'

Bacardi has announced the appointment of Gianpaolo Perego as its new regional president of Latin America, with responsibility or leading all the spirit's giant's operations the region.

In addition to managing the overall strategy for the Latin American region, and the general management of a diverse business comprising 19 countries, Bacardi said that Perego (pictured) would also become a member of its leadership team. The appointment takes effect from July 9 2012.

Ed Shirley, president, Bacardi, said: "With more than twenty years in the spirits business, Paolo brings deep industry knowledge in the commercial and brand marketing sides of the business.

"His expertise in global and regional marketplaces will have a tremendous impact in the growing and dynamic Latin American region."

Perego has moved to Bacardi from Campari North America, where he was COO.

Bacardi said Perego's qualities included an extensive background in strategy and commercial operations in developing markets, and experience in overseeing rapid growth in markets such as South America, Europe, the Caribbean, Central America and Middle East.

"While all eyes are on Brazil, the entire Latin American region continues to be a huge area of growth and opportunity for Bacardi. I look forward to further develop our portfolio of leading and innovative brands, enhance our creative campaigns and accelerate our impressive growth," Perego said.
