Speaking to Ben Bouckley from FoodProductionDaily.com and BeverageDaily.com last week, Sommer, senior account representative at the global packaging provider’s primary materials group, told Ben Bouckley that the trademarked board comprised 100% recycled material.
“It’s less weight per caliper, so you actually get more yield than a traditional clay-coated product, and the per tonne price is typically less expensive,” Sommer said.
“It is a niche board…but we’ve enhanced the surface, we’ve made it brighter…we’ve made it smoother so it will print better, and have got designs that complement the board and it’s colour, and really cover the markets that are in the natural foods segment,” he added.
Sonoco is targeting the food and beverage, pharmaceuticals and OTC, health and beauty markets with the launch, and a host of other sectors.
