Associação Brasileira do Alumínio (ABAL), the Brazilian Aluminum Association and Associação Brasileira dos Fabricantes de Latas de Alta Reciclabilidade (ABRALATAS) the Brazilian Association of Cans of High Recyclability reported the figures based on 2011 data.
The associations said the country has recycled 248.7 thousand tons of aluminium beverage cans out of a total of 253.1 thousand tons available in the market last year.
Renault de Freitas Castro, ABRALATAS CEO said: “The industry increased in 2012 its productive capacity in 9.5% going from 21 billion to 23 billion units per year; an expectation of 7% growth in the consumption of cans”.
Carlos Roberto de Morais, coordinator of ABAL Recycling Committee, said: “This result has its foundation in a chain structured more than 20 years ago and that guarantees a strong and consistent demand that remunerates all the links involved therein”.
