Constar targets speciality markets after CSD withdrawal
The firm’s largest contract to supply CSD plastic packaging expired on 1 January, leading to the closure of its Jackson, Mississippi plant, which is an injection molding facility, by the end of January.
Operations at the Havre de Grace, Maryland plant, which has injection and specialty blow molding capabilities, will move into the larger of two buildings by March.
Constar said the high volume CSD bottle market is rapidly shifting to self-manufacturing driven by machine technology available to fillers.
Andre Laus, CEO, said they had been too highly concentrated in commodity business.
“We need to direct more of our effort and resources to targeted growth opportunities in packaging markets for hotfill beverage, food, barrier, short-run and specialty products, and new applications.
“The markets we serve are rapidly changing and we must change too.”
