Fruitapeel has a turnover of £15m ($22.7m) private label manufacturer of own-label and branded juices and smoothies, and the firm's MD Terry Haigh: “UK producers have traditionally had to go abroad to fill aseptic juices in gable top cartons. This increases costs, logistics and carbon footprints."
The Elopak S-PS80 High Aseptic filling machine will be installed at Fruitapeel’s factory in Llantrisant, Wales in March 2013. It has the ability to fill aseptic juices and smoothies in 1 liter, 750ml and 500ml Pure-Pak cartons.
“This machine enables the production of longer-life chilled juices, creating the opportunity for smaller retailers to produce own-label,” Haigh said.
“Current systems only allow for large volumes with short shelf-life, leading to high wastage and logistical nightmares. Elopak’s S-PS80 machine has increased speeds of 40% compared to existing chilled lines," he added.
"In addition, the post filling cap application for the Pure-Twist cap offers added quality and integrity benefits - increasing shelf life. This machine will open up new markets for UK retail.”
Production will start at the end of March with the co-packing of juices and smoothies for Cracker Drinks, all previously produced in Germany. “Logistical, cost and environmental benefits are now uniquely available for those UK brands and retailers choosing gable top cartons for chilled, ESL and aseptic juices,” Haigh said.
