Amcor package beets competition

A resealable beet container featuring Amcor film bested the competition in this year’s UK Packaging Awards.

G’s Fresh M&S beetroot packaging, sealed with Amcor’s ReClose lidding film took home first prize, in the Consumer Convenience Category. The packaging also landed Highly Commended honors in the Flexible Plastic Pack of the Year category.

Winning design

The brand owner’s beetroot is housed in a basket covered with ReClose, a resealable lidding film. Judges’ comments indicated the panel was swayed by the quality of the reseal, and the pack’s "minimum amount of fuss which does the job."

Graham Forber, managing director for G’s Fresh, said the package design originated from a consumer desire for a resealable pack, so unused products wouldn’t have to be shifted into additional packaging.

"Security was essential with a product as notorious for staining as beetroot, so we needed the seal to be strong time after time,” he said.

Packaging performance

G’s Fresh collaborated with design staff from the Fresh Produce division of Amcor Flexibles to create the pack with the ReClose film, and Forber said the brand owner is satisfied with the results.

Their Amcor ReClose film has exceeded our expectations for reseal performance,” he said.

ReClose, which seals to PE, PS, PP or APET, reportedly allows lidded trays to be reclosed as many as 15 times. The product protects product while imparting a pack with a degree of convenience.
