Svedka vodka arrives in India

America’s second most popular imported vodka will now appear on Indian bottle shop shelves after owner Constellation brands tied up a deal with local distributor Mohan Brothers to bring Svedka to India.

"This strategic alignment with Mohan Brothers is an exciting step forward in the execution of our international strategy, which is focused on establishing strong distribution of our powerful global wine and spirits brands in our core markets around the world," said Jake Jacob, Constellation’s vice-president for Asia.

"The Vodka category has experienced double-digit compound annual growth in India for the last 10 years, according to International Wine and Spirits Research. Our partnership with Mohan Brothers intends to help us build the Svedka brand and accelerate our spirits category growth across the region."

Suhail Mehra, Mohan Brothers’ executive director, also believes vodka is poised to gain ground in India. “We believe that adding Svedka vodka will help boost demand for vodka throughout India and this agreement will benefit both companies,” he said.

Created in 1998, Sweden-imported Svedka was bought by Constellation Brands in 2007, along with exclusive worldwide marketing and distribution rights for the product.
