Avery Dennison: Food firms are hungry for sustainable labels

The label specialists are spreading the word on sustainable packaging to food brands, beverage makers, and other companies at Labelexpo and other events.

Avery Dennison is showcasing its labelling products for packaging converters at Labelexpo Americas 2014, scheduled September 9-11 in Chicago.

Sustainability in demand

Darrell Hughes, vice president and general manager for Avery Dennison’s Materials Group North America, told FoodProductionDaily the company plans to focus on the creativity and sustainability its clients are demanding in increasing numbers.

Our theme of ‘Inspiring Innovations, Sustainable Growth’ reflects a dedication to providing the best products for our customers and the environment,” he said. “We are committed to providing innovations that enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impact while also supporting growth.”

Label applications

Like hundreds of other label-focused packaging companies, Avery Dennison plans to unveil a range of products and services to Labelexpo Americas attendees. Among the recent product launches are the products in its CleanFlake portfolio; the line of recycled-content PET labels reportedly conserves costs and materials recovery.

Avery Dennison’s labeling products includes the Select Solutions Collection, with a range of materials for different food and beverage applications in 300 different possible ‘mix and match’ configuration. In addition to 427 different stock and adhesive products, the line is serviced by technical consultants to assist packaging companies and converters to determine the correct combination for a particular application.

Also in the Avery Dennison arsenal: ClearCut S7450, a high-end adhesive for labels on wine, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages. Used with MDO film, the label reportedly performs well on unconventional shapes and curves.
