Constellation Brands expands Corona Extra recall: glass particle risk

Constellation Brands Beer Division has expanded the list of production codes in a voluntary recall of Corona Extra, which was originally issued on August 15 because some bottles may contain small particles of glass.

The recall covers packages of Corona Extra in clear 12 ounce bottles, sold in six, 12, and 18 packs in the US.

The company said a production error occurred at one of four glass plants, run by third party manufacturers, which supplies the company with bottles.

A statement from Constellation Brands said, “After announcing the recall last week, the company continued and deepened its investigation of the issue.

"It found the original list of production codes was not all encompassing and consumers may have affected product that was not identified in the original list of product codes.

Anyone who previously checked codes on Corona Extra in their possession should check again to confirm whether they have potentially affected product.

Constellations Brands believes the recall still affects less than 1% of the bottles produced by one of its four glass suppliers, and said it has not received any reports of injuries from consumers.
