Entries are open for Alufoil’s Trophy 2015 competition

Entries are open for the European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA) Alufoil Trophy.

The trophy recognises the various uses of aluminium foil and closures from kitchen foil to use in packaging, construction and automotive products.

The Alufoil Trophy helps to underline the contribution this material makes to product preservation and resource efficiency, as well as recognising technical achievements and developments. We look forward to an exciting competition,” said Guido Aufdemkamp, director of communication, EAFA.

The jury is composed of an external head judge and representatives from various EAFA divisions. Last year’s head Judge was Dr Mark Caul, technical manager for packaging at Tesco.

The judges are looking for improvements in aluminium packaging over five areas including; marketing and design, consumer convenience, resource efficiency, product preservation and technical innovation.

The competition is open to entrants from packaging designers, brand owners, foil rollers, foil converters, foil container manufacturers, closure manufacturers, household foil manufacturers, retailers, and industrial solution providers. Interested consumers and consumer groups or associations may also enter.

One of last year’s winners in the consumer convenience category was Guala Closures’ Verso spout for olive oil, which is made of an aluminium shell and an integrated plastic pourer. The spout pops up at each opening to avoid oil spread.

Entries will be accepted from now until November 21 2014 with the winners announced in March next year. Click here to enter.
