Neenah shows paper packaging options

Neenah Packaging has released two swatchbooks with colours, textures, weights and custom make options for premium packaging.

The swatchbooks cover its Box Wrap and Folding Board product lines.

The company has partnered with beverage brands including Maker’s Mark, Anchor Hat Gin, DeLoach, and craft breweries such as Anchor Steam and Lagunitas.

Neenah Packaging said heavy weight board in white, kraft and black has created appeal as premium packaging in the growing brown spirits market.

Packaging to grab consumer attention

Mark Sng, director of marketing at Neenah Packaging, told FoodProductionDaily the swatchbooks include product samples.

“Paper-based, premium packaging is also often specified in the food category for gourmet and specialty items,” he added.

“Packaging plays an important marketing role. There is an average of four seconds to capture a consumer’s attention at retail.”

Samples are presented in a waterfall design to show the colours and textures of Neenah Box Wrap and Neenah Folding Board.

The firm’s Folding Board and Box Wrap are used with print processes from flexo and offset, to UV and digital.

They are also suitable for specialty printing such as foil stamping, embossing/debossing and digital raised ink.

Sng said the swatchbooks highlight top trending colours for 2015 including Honeycomb, Pewter, Silver, Vanity Pearl, and Mars.

Future trends on the market

The company identified the emergence of craft-inspired products and sustainability as two current trends in the market.

Consumers want real ingredients from local and regional sources, said Sng.

“Craft-inspired foods and beverages are growing at fast rates. This includes craft beers and lemonades, snacks, cheeses and chocolates,” he added.

“Because today’s consumer wants to know who makes their foods and beverages, and wants to know how their products are made, the packaging presents a marketing opportunity to share brand stories.

“As a result we are seeing more creative and unique premium packaging and more storytelling on the packaging and the labels.”

Sng added consumers want to know what they are buying is sustainably raised or made.

“With a lower tolerance for waste of all kinds, consumers will seek products made with less environmental impact, packaged in a way that supports sustainable forestry,” he said.

Many recycled papers in the collection contain a minimum of 30% post-consumer fibre and most are FSC certified.

The Neenah Folding Board Swatchbook has six readymade colours, vellum and felt finishes and weights between 16 to 26 pt.

It includes over 40 readymade colours, 15 finishes including Orion and Honeycomb and every weight.

The company added that while the swatchbooks present a selection of products with nearly 60 paper specialties, they also offer custom capabilities.
