European Commission clears Verallia glass acquisition by Apollo

The European Commission has approved under the EU Merger Regulation the acquisition of Verallia by Apollo Management of the US. Verallia is formed by a group of companies that manufactures and supplies glass bottles and jars for the food and beverage industries worldwide.

Before the transaction, Verallia belonged to Compagnie de Saint-Gobain of France. Apollo Management is a private equity firm.

The Commission concluded the proposed acquisition would not raise competition concerns, in particular because there are no overlaps between the activities of Apollo Management and its portfolio companies and those of Verallia.

The transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.
