Heineken 2016 half year results
Heineken has seen the cider category continue its momentum across markets worldwide, the brewer reported as it released its 2016 half year results this morning.

Cider volume increased double digit, and Heineken says it saw momentum accelerate in the second quarter.

In the UK, volume growth of the cider category was underpinned by Strongbow Dark Fruit, Strongbow Cloudy Apple and Old Mout.

Romania, Ireland and Czech Republic all doubled cider volumes on the previous year.

Cider volume grew double digit in Mexico and Canada, and Heineken says its cider sector in the US grew ahead of the category.

Releasing its half year results this morning, Heineken reported organic revenue +4.7% with revenue per hectoliter up +0.8%.

Growth in Americas, Asia Pacific and Europe offset weaker volumes in its Africa Middle East and Eastern Europe divisions. Consolidated beer volumes were up 4.1%.

Net profit (beia) increased 11.2% organically to €977m ($1,091m).

The period also saw the opening of a new brewery in Shanghai in May, which Heineken says shows its continued investment in key developing markets.
