Dover Chemical Corporation files EFSA safety request for use of an additive in plastics

Dover Chemical Corporation has asked EFSA for a safety evaluation for use of an additive in plastics.

The request by WT Consulting via Dr. Katja Dünnebier, scientific officer, BVL, (Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety, Germany), is for a safety evaluation of Phosphorous acid, triphenyl ester, polymer with alpha-hydro-omega-hydroxypoly[oxy(methyl-1,2-ethanediyl)], C10-16 alkyl esters for use as monomer (or additive) in plastics.

Food Contact Materials

A spokesman for EFSA said the information regarding the access to information on application for authorisation is based on art. 20 of EC Regulation No 1935/2004 and it is outlined in paragraph 3.7 of the “Guidance document on the submission of a dossier on a substance to be used in Food Contact Materials for evaluation by EFSA by the Panel on additives, flavourings, processing aids and materials in contact with food”. 

The application was sent to Dr. Karine Lheureux, APDESK Unit, EFSA Parma, on May 16, 2018.

The application is filed for the purpose of the authorisation of the substance and its listing in the positive list of the Regulation (EU) No 10/2011.

Polymer additives

Dover Chemical Corporation, based in Dover, Ohio, US is a subsidiary of ICC Industries in New York and provides chemical specialty products, specifically chemical additives. For example it produces alkylphenols, polymer additives, liquid and solid antioxidants, for industrial and household applications.
