Lact’Union enters overseas market with ambient drinking yogurt
The Halal-certified drinking yogurt will be launched in November in more than 30 countries in Asia, Africa and the Middle-East.
On-the-go consumption
The drink is packaged in a Tetra Prisma Aseptic 200ml carton which has a long shelf-life at ambient temperature, without added preservatives and addresses the rise of on-the-go consumption combined with healthy products.
Alexandre Zeitlin, export director, Lactinov, said Promess is the result of two years of R&D with Lact’Union’s subsidiary Lactinov, to find alternative growth areas overseas.
“Part of Lactinov’s strategy is to expand in export markets with products made from our own milk collection such as plain or flavored milk,” said Zeitlin.
“We are happy to add some value-added products to this range, such as this ambient drinking yogurt.
“Partnerships with manufacturers such as Tetra Pak, enabled us to find the appropriate packaging to meet export demands.”
The feedback so far has been very promising from its overseas suppliers and it has ‘strong ambitions to develop more on the export market, which constitutes an exciting growth area in the dairy sector’.
According to Tetra Pak, the ambient drinking yogurt segment has grown globally by 16% between 2015 and 2018, representing a consumption of around 12.5 billion packages, with expansion from South Asia to the Middle East.
10-month shelf-life
The Tetra Prisma Aseptic pack has a 10-month shelf-life and Tetra Pak worked alongside Lactinov to ensure the packaging was transportable overseas with outer cartons, which contain 24 single units wrapped by three and come with a handle to pick-up them up easily.
The dimensions are thought to fully optimize the space on the pallets.
“We are happy to support the launch of Promess Ambient Drinking Yogurt with Lactinov,” said Gilles Tisserand, marketing director, Tetra Pak France & Benelux.
“The Tetra Prisma Aseptic 200ml is the perfect fit for this product. It is convenient, easy to use and drink from and it offers a modern design that goes with the product.
“It is the result of a strong partnership with Lactinov to conceive the right packaging that makes the product easy to export. We are convinced of the potential of this product and we are looking forward to working with Lactinov again.”
Lact’Union represents over 500 dairy farms in France and exports UHT milk for online, retail and food service channels in more than 50 destinations. It produces a range of packaging in HDPE bottle, bricks and pouches.
As well as ambient drinking yogurt it produces vitamin enriched milk, Lactose-free and low fat high calcium milk.
Lact’Union will be exhibiting at the SIAL trade show in Paris from October 21-25.
