Cafeahaus has partnered with Ardagh Group to launch Goldbrew RTD (Ready-To-Drink) sparkling flavor coffee in Nitro Cans, claiming it’s the first in the German market.

The drinks are available in 250ml slimline cans in Goldbrew ginger & lemon and Goldbrew grapefruit & lemon flavors.

Goldbrew cold brew coffee is made from 100% sustainable Arabica coffee beans. It also produces Goldbrew original cold brew coffee, which comes in Ardagh’s Nitro Can.

Cafeahaus is a subsidiary of DEK Berlin which produces liquid coffee extracts and cold brew coffee concentrate.

Marco Beran, sales director, DEK Berlin, said the cans offer a shelf-stable environment for the coffee, even without refrigeration, while Nitro Can adds an exciting consumer experience.

Nitro coffee is a cold-brewed beverage that's steeped for longer than its hot-water counterpart to give it a richer taste; the nitrogen, meanwhile – which is introduced to the coffee through a beer tap – creates tiny bubbles whose relative insolubility in water means that they persist from the first sip to the last, giving the drink a full-bodied texture and lasting head.

The can’s nitrogen-charged widget brings the Goldbrew to life – first by carrying the coffee’s aroma, then by infusing its black body with that characteristic cascade of bubbles, and finally by topping it off with a tan-coloured head,” said Adriana Escobar, product manager Ardagh Group European Metal Beverage division.

Exotic flavors

According to flavour supplier Einar Willumsen, coffee in all its forms will continue to have an impact on the market place, and cold brew nitro cold brew will be particularly popular and drive growth. Ian Cranna, VP EMEA, Starbucks said the US chain expects to sell more cold brew than hot coffee in its outlets for the first time next year.

Flavoring cold brew coffees and modern designer teas will start to introduce a diverse range of taste experiences to consumers, exotic fruits such as Yuzu, Dragonfruit and Kefir Lime, plus flavors with provenance such as the Sicilian Lemon or Arctic Raspberry

The mass appeal traditional “coffee house” flavors of Caramel or Hazelnut latte will continue to introduce new consumers to the category, with “better for you” teas such as Kombucha also driving value,” predicts Einar Willumsen.

Last month, Funkin Cocktails partnered with Ardagh to sell its cocktails in Nitro Cans.

Available to buy in the UK, the range comes in four flavors; Espresso Martini, Passion fruit Martini, Amaretto Sour and on-trend Pink Gin Fizz with a silver design and bold graphics depicting the various flavours.

Adriana Escobar, product manager, Ardagh Metal Beverage Europe, said Nitro drinks have a great potential and it sees further growth in this category and in other drink categories where Nitro has not been present before.
