Craftmate
One of the highlights on Krones’ stand this year will be a newly-developed glass filler for beer and CSDs, the Craftmate G. It can handle up to 24,000 bottles per hour, and can be combined with up to two closers for crowns, screw-caps or aluminium roll-on closures.
In technological terms, it resembles the fillers from Krones’ field-proven series. For example, it operates with the HRS system featuring a vent tube, which guarantees accurate fill levels. In order to keep the filler as compact and simple as possible, however, there are also differences from the Modulfill series. For example, necessary gush-type jetting systems have been integrated, though exterior cleaning is performed manually.
Krones subsidiary Syskron, its specialist for digitalisation, will showcase its design enhancement of Share2Act. The platform offers multi-client capability in which not only can all machines in the production operation be mutually linked and imaged, but the classic functionalities of MES systems can also be united on a single user interface.

Craft brewer technology
GEA returns to BrauBeviale with its GEA Craft Yeast Propagator, which it launched last year at the show. In recent years, the growing number of varieties available on the market have led to increasingly extensive technical automation. But what works for large breweries does not necessarily work for craft brewers: so GEA has downscaled its YEAST-STAR fully automated solution to create a simplified version.
Designed for smaller budgets and capacities, it offers all the same functionality as its bigger brother, providing gentle homogenization, optimum aeration and adaptable temperature control.
London-based Fourpure Brewing Co. will be the first customer to benefit from the new propagator.
With craft brewers increasingly looking at non-alcoholic beer, this will be another focus at the GEA stand. A case in point is the Ghost Ship Citrus Pale Ale 0.5% produced by Adnams in Southwold, UK, which sailed to gold-medal success at the 2019 World Beer Awards. Adnams began producing a low-alcohol version of its popular Ghost Ship Citrus Pale Ale 4.5% about a year ago using the GEA AromaPlus dealcoholization unit. The system relies on reverse osmosis, which filters out the alcohol at the end of the brewing process, leaving all the flavor but just 0.5% alcohol.
GEA will also display other solutions such as the GEA separator skid for brewpubs, GEA Visitron Filler All-In-One, and GEO clearamic beer filtration system.
GEA’s booth can be found in Hall 7/7-600.
The new generation of can and glass filling
Sidel will showcase solutions for tomorrow’s beer lines, focusing on designing, building and maintaining advanced performance throughout the production assets’ entire lifecycles.
The company will display EvoFILL Can and EvoFILL Glass, expanding the benefits of the Sidel Matrix platform to can and glass filling, respectively. Sidel will demonstrate how the EvoFILL Can is being used by HEINEKEN Vietnam.
New at the show will be Sidel’s EvoFILL Glass: technology which was recently installed by Asahi subsidiary Birra Peroni.
Sidel will be located at Booth 223, Hall 7a.
Diversifying beer flavours and tastes
Alfa Laval will focus on how beer producers can diversify their products and differentiate with new flavours and tastes.
On display at BrauBeviale will be its range of modules for effective dry hopping – the process of adding additional hops to the beer after primary fermentation.
In releasing essential oils from the lupulin contained in the hops, the process enhances flavour and aromas without adding to the beer’s bitterness.
The benefits of Alfa Laval hopping systems include complete homogenization through dynamic agitation, low product losses and efficient removal of dry hop material through centrifugation to prevent downstream blockages. These systems can also be used to infuse the beer with a diversity of new flavours.
Alfa Laval will also display its de-alcoholization module, beer centrifuges and other solutions.
The Alfa Laval stand is at 7-430.
KHS brings beer stabilization to small breweries
KHS will be exhibiting intelligent beverage filling technologies: including the debut of its new high-performance KHS glass filler with a capacity of up to 80,000 bottles per hour.
Among other features the filler has a unique ECO system and special evacuation and CO2 purging process for glass bottles. With this the system uses up to 50% less CO2 compared to conventional methods. KHS has also cut energy consumption by a maximum of 20% thanks to its optimized vacuum pump.
At this year’s trade show KHS’ main focus will be on process efficiency, digitization and saving resources. Dr. Johannes T. Grobe, CSO of the Dortmund machine and systems manufacturer, says: “At BrauBeviale we’re thus presenting intelligent technologies which will map out the direction KHS will take both now and in the future.”
KHS is exhibiting its plant engineering in Hall 8.
Ardagh Group: metal and glass innovations
Ardagh’s Metal Beverage division will be showcasing several new entrants to their portfolio of packaging options: including a slimline 187ml wine can, ready for production in 2019.
The can offers special protective properties for wine and fulfils regulatory requirements for wine packaging in Europe and for export to the United States. It will open up opportunities to attract new consumers and consumption occasions.
From Ardagh’s Glass division, experts from the European Design team will be on hand to demonstrate every aspect of the process live on the Ardagh stand, from idea generation and hand sketching, through CAD modelling and sculptured embossing and finally to concept realisation as 3D-printed models.
Ardagh Group can be found at Stand 225, Hall 4A.
Digitisation for brewing 4.0
Viessmann Industrial Solutions will debut its new Industrial Cockpit at BrauBeviale 2019. This digital visualisation tool enables trouble-free and efficient operation of the boiler plant and is available in two versions.
The Cockpit Basic Package provides a simple display of the plant parameters. This allows preset, standardised trends such as flow and return temperatures to be monitored. The Cockpit Pro Package goes beyond data and trend analyses with an alarm that can be issued if defined limits are exceeded or not reached. The operator is then able to use the data to optimise the plant settings, therefore minimising operating costs and downtimes.
Also on display will be the enhanced Vitocontrol HS PLC controller for steam and hot water boilers, which keeps processes running smoothly in breweries and other beverage operations. This digital control system features automatic fault detection and controller optimisation. This enables remote monitoring and diagnosis, as well as proactive plant maintenance (predictive maintenance).
Energy efficiency
Nord DriveSystems will present a new synchronous motor that combines a significant improvement of energy efficiency with the nsd tupH surface treatment.
It is optimally suitable for the challenging environmental conditions and the stringent hygiene requirements required in beverage logistics and beverage production.
NORD will also present its standardised drive concept for lauter tuns as well as the new NORDAC PRO SK 500P control cabinet inverter.
You can find Nord Drivesystems in Hall 7 on Stand 439.
Tethered caps
Aptar will present its tethered caps, which promote post-use recycling as the tethered closure stays attached to the bottle throughout its life cycle. The company will also present a new sports cap and new instant mixing cap.
Aptar can be found in Hall 4, stand 129.
