From efficient and flexible technologies, through to sustainable raw materials, this year’s BrauBeviale will put the spotlight on creating the best solutions for the industry moving forward.

The issues and challenges facing equipment suppliers, ingredient producers and beverage manufacturers are the same across borders, and BrauBeviale promises to be a key platform for knowledge-sharing and innovation.

The show takes place in Nuremberg, Germany, from November 12-14.

International dimension

Last year’s record breaking event saw more than 40,000 industry professionals visit BrauBeviale, with over 18,000 of them from outside Germany.

Visitors represented 132 countries: including the US, UK, Italy, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Austria, Russia, Greenland, Fiji and Costa Rica.

This year more than 1,100 exhibitors will be at the show: covering nine halls arranged by sub-sector.

Visitors and exhibitors come from all areas of the beverage industry: including beer, cider, mineral water, wine, spirits, soft drinks, juice and dairy drinks.

The halls are grouped by theme: raw materials and sensory attributes in Hall 1, technologies in Halls 6, 7A, 7, 8, 9, water treatment, analysis and components in Hall 6, packaging in Halls 4A and 4, and accessories and marketing in Halls 5 and 6.

The show covers the entire process chain for beverage production: from raw materials and technology to packaging, accessories and marketing ideas.

While the event has always showcased the latest innovations in technology, this year efficiency, energy savings and other ways to improve sustainability in production will be the headline theme for the show.

“The issues and challenges currently confronting beverage producers are generally the same across borders," explain the organisers.

“Efficient and flexible technologies, diverse and high-quality raw materials and ingredients and sustainability in production are just as important as digitalisation and automation, future strategies for your own company, packaging, marketing messages and communicating with consumers and end clients.”

BrauBeviale will explore these topics through products on display and also in the supporting programme. Full details are available at braubeviale.de

BrauBeviale: What to look out for

Pre-fair events: November 11

The 7th European MicroBrew Symposium, hosted by VLB, the Berlin-based Research and Training Institute for Brewing, takes place the day before the show. The symposium will focus above all on the technical and technological aspects of craft beer production: such as concepts for small breweries, expanding product diversity and quality control. Malt will be another focus area this year. The symposium is directed at international craft brewers, brewpub operators and maltsters and will therefore be held in English.

Also held the day before the main show, the Export Forum German Beverages will be a source of inspiration for breweries and other beverage producers and provides a neutral platform for high-calibre knowledge-sharing with export specialists.

At BrauBeviale: November 12-14

The Craft Drinks Area will feature tastings of beer and other beverage specialities, led by independent experts. Across eight themed bars, visitors can experience five beer bars with beers from various countries, as well as alcohol-free and low-alcohol options. There will also be a spirits bar, a bar for water and innovative alcohol-free drinks, and a bar where visitors can learn about the role of glass in the sensory attributes of the beverage.

The themed pavilion Artisan and Craft Beer Equipment includes a special display area brau@home and a speakers’ corner with a programme of sessions.

The European Beer Star, which has had a home at BrauBeviale since it started in 2004, will once again be presented at the event. On the first day of the fair, visitors can vote for their favourite beer from among the gold medal winners – the Consumers’ Favourite 2019 in gold, silver and bronze. Last year the European Beer Star enjoyed record-breaking participation: 2,344 beers from 51 countries faced the verdict of the 144-strong panel of experts. This year, beers could be submitted in 67 categories, including the new categories “Stout” and “Non-alcoholic wheat yeast (top fermented)”.

The Innovation made in Germany Pavilion will showcase young companies from Germany, with have recently launched innovations onto the market or hope to do so in the near future. Other special focus areas include the Innovation Drinks Packaging area.

The Forum BrauBeviale will offer talks, presentations and panel discussions on topics relevant to the future of the beverage industry, naturally including specific issues relating to beer.
