Danone’s natural spring water brand Volvic will be packaged in 100% rPET bottles in Switzerland and Germany by the end of the year; while 100% rPET bottles wil be used across its whole US portfolio from 2021.

Volvic has committed to 100% rPET packaging in Europe and 50% rPET use globally by 2025. This will begin with small formats in France and Belgium – and across the full range in Switzerland and Germany – by the end of this year.

100% rPET bottles will also become available in the US next year, covering the whole portfolio.

The 100% rPET commitment excludes caps and labels.

As well as reusing plastic and preventing the need to use further virgin plastic, an 100% rPET bottle saves 50% of carbon emissions compared to a virgin plastic bottle, says Danone.

In June this year, Volvic achieved B Corp certification and was certified carbon neutral by The Carbon Trust. Its plain water bottling site switched to 100% renewable energy this year.

Today it is also launching a ‘Thirsty for Action’ campaign, which will select three organizations to receive grants of $11,700 each for their work in protecting nature.
