Nespresso has started work on a 160m CHF ($178m) expansion at its production center in Romont, Switzerland.

The second production hall will help ‘answer increasing consumer demand for Nespresso’s high-quality premium coffees and support international development in the coming years’.

The expansion will double production capacity at the site with 10 new lines dedicated to Nespresso Vertuo and Professional coffee ranges, as well as the creation of 300 new jobs by 2030.

The first new production lines are expected to be fully operational by June 2022; with 100 people to be hired by the end of 2021.

Swiss production

All Nespresso coffees distributed worldwide are produced in Switzerland, across three facilities.

The Romont factory, inaugurated in 2015, is labeled as a ‘center of excellence’ for the production of Nespresso’s Vertuo coffees, which are now available in 24 countries across North America, Europe and Asia.

In the last two years, Nespresso has grown operations in Romont with the addition of four new production lines and the creation of 50 new jobs, while inaugurating a new Product Development Center and a Coffee Campus in 2018 to foster coffee innovation and expertise.

Today, the first stone of the second production hall was laid in the presence of representatives from the canton of Fribourg, the district of Glâne  and the municipality of Romont.

“This foundation illustrates our Swiss and regional roots and symbolizes the continued success of Nespresso. It is a story that began in 1986, and it is with great joy that we write a new chapter today. All those involved can be proud of this great adventure,” said Guillaume Le Cunff, CEO of Nespresso.
