Amcor boosts preform manufacturing capability

Amcor Rigid Plastics USA has snapped up the manufacturing assets and intellectual property of Eco-Groupe, Inc.

The privately held preform manufacturing operation has four manufacturing sites in the US.

Eco-Groupe’s portfolio includes a modular molding system called Viper, which allows for multiple size preforms to be injected simultaneously, and Eco-Pod, a mobile manufacturing system.

Mike Schmitt, Amcor Rigid Plastics president, said the acquisition continues its growth strategy and commitment to the packaging industry.

“Eco-Groupe’s technologies will strengthen our innovation focus and expand our offerings to customers. Our focus will remain on delivering the highest levels of quality and service to all customers as we move forward.”

Amcor Rigid Plastics has also purchased a minority equity interest in Encon for US$55m, a business enterprise affiliate of Eco-Groupe.

Encon generates revenues of US$110m servicing Amcor's existing and new customers within the beverage and food segments.

The business has four manufacturing sites, producing the majority of preforms from one plant in Dayton, Ohio.

Ron Delia, Amcor CEO and managing director, said the acquisition provided an opportunity to acquire a well-capitalised business at an attractive price.

“Given the manufacturing overlap, the acquisition will deliver considerable operating synergies and generate strong returns for shareholders."
