From goon sack to cask: Australia’s wine box celebrates 50 years

One of South Australia’s best-loved inventions—alongside the Stobie termite-proof telegraph pole, the Hills Hoist clothesline and the Jump plough that doesn’t get stuck on rocks—the so-called “goon sack” was the brainchild of a “frustrated inventor.”

Siemens to cut 7,800 jobs worldwide

As part of a plan to streamline administration and overhead functions announced in May, Siemens will cut about 7,800 jobs worldwide, including 3,300 in Germany.
